Penketh Bowling Club

We are a friendly and flexible club that aims to provide an enjoyable bowling experience for a wide range of bowlers and potential bowlers.

For the beginner, even those who have never bowled before, experienced members will be available to give you a taster of the game before joining. Once a member you can always get some additional coaching to improve your game.

For the social bowler, who prefers to simply enjoy a game with friends the green is open for play every day throughout the season. Saturday afternoon is our regular social bowling day when members get together for a friendly ’round robin’ game and enjoy some refreshments and a chat – mostly about the bowl not doing what it was supposed to do! We also try to organise days out when we visit other bowling venues.

For the more competitive bowler, we have both ladies’, men’s and a mixed pairs’ team taking part in various Warrington & North Cheshire League competitions.

Carole, one of our newer members writes about her experience:

“Since finishing work I had been looking to take up a new pastime.  My brother, who has bowled for many years, suggested crown green bowling. I thought why not? I’ll give it a go and so I decided to join Penketh Bowling Club. 

I was very nervous at first but the warmth of the welcome and smiling faces of the members soon made me feel at ease. Looking back it was the best decision I ever made. It has been a wonderful summer and I have enjoyed every minute of the time I have spent down at Penketh Bowling Green. From social bowling on a Saturday, mixed pairs on a Sunday and ladies singles on a Tuesday I have met lots of people and made so many new friends.

Although I’m still new to the game I entered all the competitions at the club as I wanted to support the club and all the hard work that goes into the running all these events.  I got lots of help and advice from all the more experienced bowlers and even got to the semi-finals of the Ladies’ Pairs. 

Many a warm sunny afternoon has been spent down at the green having a practice and enjoying the company of new friends and the beautiful gardens that surround the green. As well as all the competitions, the club put on a number of BBQ’s throughout the summer and also a day out to Waterloo Bowling Green in Blackpool, very well supported and good fun.

All I can say is a big Thank You to everyone involved in the running of the club & making a complete novice like myself feel so welcome. Already looking forward to next season”

“We have been members of Penketh Bowling Club for some 13/14 years now. It has been a form of relaxation while working and now retired it is handy to be able to meet up with other members in an afternoon and enjoy the social bowling and occasional barbeques that we hold. It’s a form of circulating and enjoying with a friendly crowd of people of all ages alike In a relaxed atmosphere and fresh air.”
