Penketh Bowling Club Competitions 2023

After the years of disruption due to the Covid pandemic we are pleased to re-launch a full programme of ten club competitions this year. They will include three ladies’, four men’s, two open competitions and a mixed pairs for our mainly social bowlers.

The aim of the competitions is give all members the opportunity to experience friendly competition and develop their game playing with and against others with varying levels of skill. Competitions are designed so that everyone plays at least two games before elimination and to be as fair as possible. Of course, on balance the more skilled players are more likely to end up winning but, as they say, “every dog can have it’s day” and there’s no reason why you can’t get a lot of enjoyment, whatever the result.

We hope that you will support the competitions in good numbers and continue the long tradition of honours board competitions in our club. Our oldest trophy, the Penketh Tanning Co. Challenge Bowl goes back to the 1930s and is still being contested by today’s members.

The competitions require a significant effort to organise and the success of the programme is totally dependent on the support from members. Ideally each competition requires a minimum entry of 16 members for it to be a worthwhile and enjoyable competition. The success or otherwise of this year’s programme is likely to determine the future of members’ competitions at the club.
